Pre-assessment
After introducing the topic of Ancient Civilizations students will be shown various clip art photographs that they will attempt to define and/or describe. Aspects such as why, where, and when, the artifacts in the images were used are important and are able to show how much prior knowledge of the Aztec, Inca, and Maya is present. With the use of a PowerPoint presentation (attached below) students will be exposed to primary sources. Allow for questions to be asked throughout the presentation.
Essential Questions:
What made the Aztecs, Incas, and Mayans unique?
Would you rather live in the times of Anciet Civilizations or today? Why?
Common Core:
Describe characters, settings, and major events in a story, using key details (RL.1.3)
With prompting and support, students will make cultural connections to text and self (RL.1.9a)
Ask and answer questions about what a speaker says in order to gather additional information or clarify something that is not understood (SL.1.3)
